LA FRONTERA

PRIME TIME SERIES - Crime / Drama

5 x 60

1987. France begins to collaborate with Spain in the fight against terrorism, handing over ETA members at the border. In an emergency meeting of the organization's leadership, it was decided not to extend the attacks to the neighboring country. Two fronts are worse than one and the situation, with recent blows to its structure, does not make it advisable to divide forces. But a small group decides, in secret, to act on its own and plans an attack in Paris as revenge.

Through one of his informants, who intercepts a coded message, a brilliant young captain of the Guardia Civil learns that an action is about to take place imminently in the French capital. Although he knows nothing more, no specific details, he brings it to the attention of his superiors. The latter immediately informs the Ministry of the Interior, but against the apparent logic and the supposed loyalty between the two nations, the Spanish Government decides not to act. That France knows what terrorism is and suffers it in its own territory. Perhaps in this way its collaboration, always ambiguous and timorous, will be taken more seriously. The captain is a man of principles, he cannot let it go. Contravening orders and after a confrontation with his direct command in the Guardia Civil, he decides to call on his counterpart in the French police - with whom he has had friction in the past - to try to prevent the attack and arrest the terrorists. What he does not know is that the young woman he has been dating for a few weeks belongs to ETA, with instructions to inform on him as a possible target. The tables are turned. By order of his father, one of the ringleaders of the gang, he will have to collaborate with the captain and the French authorities - his enemies - to prevent the attack on his fellow dissidents. When everything is over, he will think about what to do with the captain.

The situation is very complex: the almost blind search for a commando - a man and a woman whose members are not on file, with clues that are not very solid and difficult to follow, the indirect intervention of the Marseille mafia as supplier of explosives, document forgers, old Republican fighters... All this against the clock and with very different heroes, almost antagonistic.

A story of action, loyalty and betrayal, full of tension, where everyone will have to prove what they believe in and what their limits are.

CHARACTERS:

MARIO SANZ. Captain of the Guardia Civil de Información, specialized in the fight against terrorism. He has participated, for years, in actions in Spain and in the south of France. He speaks good French, although not perfect. He is completely faithful to his commitment to the Guardia Civil, honest and upright, but he often does things his own way; and it is precisely this that causes him ethical dilemmas that he always resolves by seeking the greater good, even if he has to pay for it. He is not a womanizer, but he finds it hard to stay away from a woman if he likes her. He does not seek commitments because his work is dangerous and he knows it can end badly. That is why he does not want to force anyone to share it with him. He is brave and even daring, but not crazy: he keeps his temper until there is no other option; although since he separated from his lifelong girlfriend he behaves less cautiously. He is the type of person who acts rather than speculates and who never boasts of his virtues. He is polite, but not particularly elegant, somewhat provincial. However, his sobriety gives him a remarkable dignity.

An informant he trained was killed, and he feels responsible for not having taken all due precautions. He has also lost several colleagues in the fight against ETA. That is why he is aware of the danger of his work, as well as its importance. The most painful thing happened when an unknown ETA member, who managed to escape, executed an unarmed comrade in front of him.

Being involved in a decision to act in France, alone and against orders, will break all his schemes and put him in a completely new situation.

IZASKUN BERGARA. Daughter of Xabier Bergara, one of the ETA leaders who wants to avoid the attack in France at all costs. She is a strong and resolute woman, but feminine when necessary. She is forced by circumstances, in a continuous inner struggle between her own will, her father's will and what she believes she must do. A natural daughter of Bergara, her older half-brother is in prison and the other one betrayed the organization. That is why she has become something like Xabier's “last hope”.

Izaskun obeys her father when he orders her to go to Paris and collaborate with the police to prevent the imminent attack. But while he does it to avoid France's response, she actually wants to save lives.

JON OLABERRIA. He looks more like a Nordic than a Basque-Frenchman from Bayonne. This is because he suffers from a genetic alteration that makes him have very light hair and pale skin, without being an albino. His look can be so hard that it chills your blood, but he also manages to pretend to be an affable and close person; something that he is in reality with his loved ones. His coldness is proverbial and he fears nothing.

He is a textbook, relentless fanatic who believes in his ideals enough to do anything, believing he is doing right. He is married and has a newborn son. He sincerely loves his wife (Ainhoa Zúñiga), but will fall into an unexpected “encounter” with Edurne. Ideologist, intellectual. He wants France's action to leave a trace, to show that they have operational capacity, so that the message will be very clear once they achieve their goal.

EDURNE URKIOLA. Strong woman, born in the heart of Euskadi, with a lot of character and a masculine touch. She has a wild and irresistible animal attraction. She is bisexual. If Jon is cold, she is polar; and she always is. Her gaze can make you fall in love or scare you, depending on your desires. She is less theoretical, more action-oriented, though just as fanatical in her own way.

She enjoys killing, is a sadist and lacks scruples. She comes from a normal family, with no abertzales interests beyond what is usual in the area. She became interested in ETA when she came of age, and it is not clear whether she did it more for the ideas or for the fact of being able to give free rein to her murderous instincts.

LÉON RENAUD. Slightly older than Mario, he is a man with a much bigger world. He is a policeman by vocation, as his family owns a relatively modest châteauy a small vineyard. He is as brave as Mario, but with a “French” touch that makes him seem more timorous (only seem so).

He is an expert in weapons and explosives, with contacts in the underworld of half of France. He has points of sybarite: he obviously knows how to choose a wine, he smokes Havana cigars when he is relaxed, he uses an expensive lighter, etc. His initial rivalry with Mario comes from previous years, when he had some friction in the course of anti-terrorist operations in which collaboration was not open.

Hombre de mediana edad con gabardina beige y gafas, expresión seria, frente a una entrada. Texto superpuesto sugiere relación con comercio y frontera.
