A woman from Extremadura donates more than 70 litres of breast milk to the regional bank

The generosity of the Navalmoral de la Mata resident Isabel Rico sped up the launch of a breast milk home collection service, that, until not long ago, was only able to deliver to hospitals.

DONANTE LECHE MATERNA
Julia Pecellín

This story begins with the birth of Isabel Rico's son who was born three months premature and delivered by C-section complications that, a priori, made it difficult for the mother to produce milk. She decided to stimulate her breasts in order to feed her son, but the baby's stomach was incapable of digesting the milk, and this Navalmoral de la Mata (Cáceres) resident started to freeze it, at a rate of 3 litres daily, and she even bought an extra freezer to store it in.

The doctors suggested that she donate the milk and, immediately, the Breast Milk Bank in Extremadura, with headquarters in Mérida, went to her residence to collect the more than 70 litres that she had stored. Since then, this service will go to any corner of the region.
