Genital mutilation, a cruel demonstration of violence against women
A thousand women who live in The Canary Islands are at risk of suffering genital mutilation. A common practice in countries such as Senegal, Nigeria, Mali and Gambia. Only in the province of Las Palmas, the courts have already issued three condemnatory sentences for carrying out this practice.

The Canary Islands¿ Ministry of Health will begin an informative campaign on female genital mutilation through the Canary Islands Health Service Network. This initiative seeks to raise awareness among the population of the negative effects that this practice has on the health of the girls and women who suffer it.
