Sevilla is looking for a new coach
Sevilla is looking for a new coach following Berizzo¿s sacking. Javi Gracia, formerly with Málaga, looks to be the strongest contender.
Sevilla is running out of time. After several days of meetings and talks, as well as a trip to Italy, the Board has no more leeway, because the team comes back from holiday today, and training is set to resume tomorrow.
The Board meeting, currently being held with sporting director Oscar Arias¿ report on the table, needs to produce a new manager for Sevilla for the rest of the season.
There are four candidates: Javi Gracia, Thomas Tuchel, Vincenzo Montella and Walter Mazzarri. Gracia, formerly with Málaga, is the most likely candidate. Castro and Arias met with him yesterday in Madrid. Points in his favour are that he knows the League and its working methods, and that he was a candidate when Sampaoli was hired. Counting against him are his lack of experience at top-ranking clubs and in European competitions. He would be brought on board for the rest of this season and for the coming season. There are decisions yet to be made regarding the transfer market, in which the new manager will have much of the say.
There have also been meetings in Italy with Montella, who would arrive together with Enzo Maresca. He was manager at Sampdoria when Correa and Muriel were there. Another is Walter Mazzarri, former coach at Watford, Inter, and Napoli. Lastly, there¿s the German coach Thomas Tuchel, formerly at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund.
