Puente Genil, the "City of Light"
Puente Genil , in Córdoba, is called the city of light. This is because it is home to the factory and distribution of 90 percent of Christmas lights of the main Spanish cities. The group Ximénez has reached cities in 40 countries, including New York City, Brussels, Cairo and Las Vegas. This year, Grenada will house a 60-meter high tree: Europe's biggest and the second largest in the world.
At the factory in Puente Genil, in Córdoba, work is carried out 24 hours a day to produce the 20 million points of light planned for this year. The group generates 600 direct jobs and many others indirectly. It is a family-owned factory started 70 years ago in a small household appliance shop in Puente Genil where the grandfather of the current administrators placed his first Christmas Star. Today, the Ximénez family have reached 40 countries and present developments every year, not only as Christmas lights but in shop windows, shopping centres and other events.
This year, in Granada, they have installed Europe's largest tree of light and the largest in Central America in El Salvador. In the United States, after lighting New York's Fifth Avenue, they have orders in both the East and West coasts. The great Christmas surprise is going to be the interactive digitisation with smart LEDs with integrated microchips that you will be able to enjoy in Málaga, Vigo and Puente Genil.
