The investigation was initiated following a warning from the Guardia Civil of Murcia that an antique smuggler who had been arrested in said region was maintaining trade relations with a woman residing in San Fernando, Cádiz.

The agents tracked and monitored this woman and her husband, and discovered that the couple had accounts on online sites aimed at the sale and auctioning of works of art and archaeological objects.

The Guardia Civil found thousands of archaeological pieces at the couple¿s residence. Amphoras, pots, incense holders, coins, trinkets... A huge sample spanning from the Phoenician era to the First Spanish Republic.

The Museum of Cádiz shall be responsible for the inventory, cataloguing and custody of the recovered material until the court of Murcia hearing the case issues a decision.
