The European Cinema Festival of Seville kicks off: A week that is sure to be "worthy of the big screen"
The day has arrived in Seville for one of the greatest cultural events of the year. The European Cinema Festival of Seville (SEFF) kicks off, and the 14th edition features more than 200 films from 32 countries, including 20 world premieres. The Taviani brothers, living myths of Italian cinema, will receive the honorary award of the event and will collect the ¿Giraldillo de Honor¿... Spanish film ¿Tierra firme¿, with the participation of TVE, will open the Festival tonight.
¿Seville has already become a benchmark among independent film fans¿, says the director of the Festival, José Luis Cienfuegos. ¿In addition, this year we will be featuring more world premieres than ever before¿. No fewer than 20 world premieres... and 185 national premieres. Talking of Spanish cinema, here are some of the most highly anticipated films: "Algo muy gordo", by Carlo Padial; and the world premiere of "Oro", by Agustín Díaz Yanes, based on the story written by Arturo Pérez Reverte, on the quest for El Dorado... And speaking of gold, the festival will be announcing the honorary award to the Taviani brothers, living myths of Italian cinema... 40 years after their masterpiece, ¿Padre Padrone¿, which has already gone down in European cinema history.
At the Lope de Vega theatre, the setting for the inaugural gala being held tonight, everything is already in place... "Tierra firme", a film with the participation of TVE, will be tasked with opening the festival. After taking home a win at the Festival de Málaga with his debut film ¿10.000 kilómetros¿, Carlos Marqués-Marcet now presents his second film. The film will launch a festival where we will also get to see ¿Bajo la piel del lobo¿ and ¿El autor¿, a further two films with the participation of TVE.
