"Tetralogy", by Víctor Pulido, in Contemporary Culture Space, Cádiz

The Cádiz Contemporary Culture Space is showing "Tetralogy", an exhibition of work by Víctor Pulido, until late September. An anthological retrospective of the last 15 years of work by the Huelva-born artist whose sculptures, paintings, drawings and computer graphics analyse human character with the help of irony and absurdity.

Víctor Pulido holds that dogs are like people, although they are easier to read.

So "Vida Perra" (Dog's Life), one of the series in "Tetralogy", creates a sort of theatre where our social behaviour is represented by unique canine actors.

In a nutshell, human nature is the central theme of this retrospective of the Huelva native, the latest winner of the Cortes de Cádiz Award for Contemporary Creation.

His almost obsessive interest in facial expressions and how they reveal personality, intentionally or otherwise, reaches its apogee in the sculptures of heads in the series "Seres y Estares" (Beings and Existings).

Pulido caricatures caricature and portrays the archetypes of our society through irony and sarcasm.

His use of parody to show reality turns acid and witty in his "Enanitos de jardín" (Garden Gnomes) series, a metaphor for the smallness of human beings.

And Víctor Pulido is still exploring human beings even when not depicting them, as in "Pares Anónimos" (Anonymous Couples), a criticism of consumer society in the form of a shoe shop window, prompting the question: if boxes are shoe containers, are shoes people containers?
