Record-breaking temperatures these past few weeks following a warm spring has resulted in the harvest happening 15 days sooner compared to previous years.
The first name to be harvested this year is Montilla, Moriles. Harvesting is done during the morning hours. It's dawn in the Cordoban countryside and grapes are being collected to be used to produce Montilla-Moriles, designation of origin, in Córdoba.
The varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc or Verdejo will be collected during the first European harvest... even earlier this year, having come two weeks sooner than previous years.
Next week, collection of the native Pedro Ximénez grape will begin, which they use to produce fortified wines and sweet wines from this designation of origin.
