Queen Letizia opened the meeting of Cervantes Institutes directors in Málaga
Málaga hosts from Monday the Annual Meeting of Cervantes Institute Directors. The event is attended by 70 institution directors, led by Juan Manuel Bonet, where, for four days, they will establish their lines of work for the coming year. This is the second time that the Cervantes Institute has chosen Andalusia for this event; the first was in Córdoba, ten years ago.
The choice of Málaga as the site of the annual meeting of the Cervantes Institute was a surprise to no one. Because, in addition to a wide and varied cultural offering, the capital of the Costa del Sol is the indisputable leader of language tourism in Spain. This is one of the issues that will be addressed in the work sessions attended by the directors of the Cervantes Institute, an institution with a presence on every continent. Here in Andalusia, there are 47 Spanish centres accredited by the Cervantes Institute, which not only teach the language.
The Cervantes Institute managers have made plans for expansion. They will open new centres in Zurich, Dakar and Seoul, and will increase their presence in the United States. That is why they are making this request of the government. Bonet also thanked Queen Letizia for her presence today at the opening ceremony. He said that, without a doubt, the king and queen are the best ambassadors of our language and Spanish culture abroad.
