They're calling it ¿the Ebola virus of the olive tree¿. Xylella fastidiosa, a bacterium that has already devastated more than a million olive trees in Italy, has arrived to the Iberian Peninsula. A case has just been detected in the Autonomous Community of Valencia. Andalusiais trembling in the face of the possibility that the virus will spread. There are about three hundred ligneous species being threatened . . . and thus far, there¿s no known cure. For this reason, the Department of Agriculture and farming organisations have met together at a Pant Health Round Table. . . They are already preparing a course of action in response to the viral threat that could prove to be fatal to a key sector of our economy.
