The prosecutor calls for 23 years for murder in the crime of Talavera la Real

The public prosecutor emphasised the "brutal and sordid" death of Antonio Paniagua in his home in December 2014, in the last session of the trial in the Provincial Court of Badajoz, where the sentence will now be considered, and has asked for a 19 years prison term for theft and homicide, a penalty which the private suit is seeking to increase to 23 years by categorising it as "murder". Meanwhile, the accused has again denied responsibility for the crime, and the defence has asked for acquittal.

The hearing for the crime of Talavera la Real (Badajoz) ended today in the Court of Badajoz with the concluding remarks and the prosecutor's request for a 19-year sentence for the sole defendant, José G.S., considering him responsible for beating Antonio Paniagua to death after breaking into his home to burgle it on the night of 18 December 2014.

According to the accusation, he tied his hands and hit him on the head four times with a plant-pot full of cement, leaving him to die by drowning in his own blood. The prosecutor emphasised the "brutal and sordid" nature of the attack, and the private suit is seeking to raise the severity of the crime to "murder" and calling for a 23-year sentence, while the defence is asking for acquittal.
