The use of agricultural fertilisers threatens wetlands in Extremadura

Numerous carp have been found dead on the bank of the Salor reservoir, in Cáceres. They die due to lack of oxygen, according to the delegate of the Spanish Society of Ornithology, SEO BirdLife, in Extremadura. Marcelino Cardalliaguet says that the land fertilisers that end up in the reservoirs produce an explosion of algae, which eliminates oxygen.

Now, algae survives all year round because increasingly , the annual cold cycles are shorter  "Climate change is worsening many of these problems, it is extending their influence", assures Cardalliaguet.
