The number of calls to the Teléfono de la Esperanza grows
With the crisis, calls to the crisis helpline Teléfono de la Esperanza have increased by 20% over the last four years. Every month, volunteers of this social service NGO in the region answer an average of 100 calls from people going through difficulties due to money, work, relationships, or any other reason. They all need the same thing: someone who will listen.
Mérida's representative of Friends of the Teléfono de la Esperanza (AMITES), José Tarifa Terrones, has presented an exhibition of mosaics and paintings to introduce their work.

The Teléfono de la Esperanza is available in 31 Spanish provinces 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In Extremadura, it has four centres: Cáceres, Badajoz, Almendralejo and Mérida. In the regional capital, an exhibition, organised by AMITES, has just opened in the Alcazaba Cultural Centre. Many of these paintings and mosaics were created by the NGO's representative, José Tarifa Terrones. Twenty volunteers like him answer calls to the helplines on 924 31 38 87 and 924 22 29 40. With their free listening service, they hope to contribute towards helping people who need to get through a personal crisis. Their motto is "Where there is hope, all problems are relative".
