Geminids meteor shower tonight

GEMINIDAS
RTVE CANARIAS

There is a Geminids meteor shower in store for us tonight. All you will need is a dark place and your own eyes to see it. Shooting stars will be emitted from a strange asteroid

called Phaethon. As the father of these shooting stars,  this is an active asteroid that is moving very close to the sun and reaching very high temperatures, which dip at night. Thanks to this thermal breaking, the asteroid gives off dust, allowing us to be able to appreciate this wonder.

Phaethon could eventually pose a risk for Earth, but for now it is highly impossible that it will collide with our planet. All this will cause the meteor shower that the Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics will broadcast live from the islands via its website sky-live.tv. If you want to appreciate this marvellous phenomenon, make sure you're in a dark place and that you keep your eyes well opened. And there is a specific area in the sky where you will be able to see it better: the the constellation Orion.

The time scheduled is midnight tonight. A gift from nature, just in time for Christmas.
