Extremadura calculates about 1,100 of its people are affected by Aids

The anti-AIDS Committee of Extremadura has asked the Junta to sign the Paris declaration, saying that "this is a historic moment" in which "we have a real opportunity to put an end to the epidemic" by 2030.

On Wednesday 1 December, the Assembly of Extremadura, in Mérida, held an official event to mark World AIDS Day.

According to the councillor for Health and Social Policy, José María Vergeles, about 1,100 people Extremadura are infected with the AIDS virus.

The anti-AIDS Committee is asking for an extra effort to eradicate the disease by 2030, as set out in the Paris Declaration. Its Chairman, Santiago Pérez Avilés, has called for an urgent campaign "to diagnose as many people as possible".
