35% of tourists who visit La Palma go back
- La Palma intends to improve the volume of tourists who go back to the island to spend their holidays
- Improvements made to air connectivity with northern Europe maintain calmness in the tourism sector
La Palma seeks loyal tourists. At present, just 35% of the visitors who go to the island to spend their holidays go back to the destination - 15% less than in the rest of the archipelago. This has been one of the objectives posed by the new Island Council for Tourism, which replaces to the old Trust.
Among the topics in its new agenda, the Council wants to include, in a consultative way, the voices of the sector in tourism promotion and the planning of infrastructures. Asked about the strike announced by Air Europa and the problems experienced in Vueling operational services, the members of the Council stated that they didn't think these factors would affect connections with the island. Some of the connections, according to the chairwoman of the Town Hall of La Palma, Anselmo Pestana, "are already beginning to operate. What we need to do now is to take the first leap in terms of planning".
At present, the island is currently benefiting from new air links with Sweden and Denmark, and during the winter months, also with Finland and Norway. It has also improved its links with Germany and the United Kingdom.
