Spain reacts to the refugees in a "mean and indifferent" manner according to CEAR
Spain and Europe's response during 2015 to helping the 60 million refugees throughout the world is reflected in the CEAR annual report.
The Spanish Refugee Aid Commission (CEAR) has made an informed statement, claiming that in 2015, with 60 million people being forced to seek refugee throughout the world, Spain and Europe's response has been "mean and indifferent". Last year, Spain relocated just 124 people and did not resettle any.
The 14,881 people who sought asylum in 2015 made an historical record in our country, although they merely represent 1% of the European total. Of the total, 126 sought asylum in the Canary Islands. So far during 2016, 82 people have requested help in the Canary Islands. CEAR has also reported the delay that is being experienced in responses to asylum requests. There are currently citizens from Ukraine, Venezuela and Mali in the archipelago that have been waiting 5 years for an answer from the State.
