The Beatles and The Rolling Stones: two not-so-rival bands
In the eyes of the whole world, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were rival bands. Or, at least, that was how the recording industry portrayed things to be. The latest exhibition of La Térmica, in Malaga, now debunks the supposed confrontation with the help of the bands¿ trusted photographers. 70 images reveal that not only were The Stones and The Beatles friends... but they also gave each other songs and even went so far as to share the same talent manager.
London, 1962. The miniskirt, black and white and supermodels are in fashion when the Beatles break into the world of music. Their first cover was taken by photographer Terry O'Neill. With "Beatlemania" in full swing, another band was making their way onto the top charts. A group known as The Rolling Stones. Gered Mankowitz was just 19 years old when he joined the band with his camera.
In the eyes of the whole world, they were two rival bands Pop against rock, glamour and modernity up against scruffy bad boys¿ and a legendary division was forged. However, the truth of the matter is that it was all a marketing ploy. Both photographers were accomplices and witnessed the friendship between the musicians. Today, their photos bring us closer to the best moments of these musicians... revolutionaries of the 1960s, having already established themselves as classics.
