Hiroko is from Tokyo and Maite from San Sebastián. Today two Greeters, two local volunteers, father and daughter, accompany them on a tour of around two hours of their favourite places in the city, those they enjoy each day. This is a alternative to official tours and does not focus on monuments or museums.
Greeters receive no money and do not accept tips. Their altruistic activity, which requires in-depth knowledge, lets them make new friends. You can contact them on specialist websites. Because the Greeters movement is a network of local volunteers spread around 150 cities worldwide, and it is looking for new members. Greeters began 20 years ago in New York, and they want to make it clear that they are not competing with tour guides.
