El Médano beach closed due to E. coli contamination
Granadilla de Abona is investigating a possible faecal spill as the cause of the E. coli bacteria in their waters.
This is the third time they have detected the presence of E. coli in the southern area of Tenerife since the summer began.
E-COLI Médano
The residents of El Médano are asking the town of Granadilla de Abona to put a stop to the dumping of faecal matter into the water. This time the beach affected by E. coli is Leocadio Machado - 800 metres of coastline next to the Montaña Roja Special Natural Reserve.
The city hall asserts that the contamination is unrelated to the sewage network - it¿s due to an illegal spill that¿s currently being investigated.
