Córdoba native Manuel Gutiérrez, one of the few paper model makers in Spain (To publish whenever we want)
An Internet search 12 years ago on World War II marked the beginning of a hobby that has won him many awards. Córdoba native Manuel Gutiérrez is one of the few paper model makers in Spain. His projects include even the smallest details.
When viewed, his models look metallic, and many have a mirror underneath to show details of the engine or the most hidden parts. Manuel Gutiérrez explains that these models are not an expensive hobby. His most expensive one cost ¿60, but following four years of work; the simpler ones cost ¿12. He says that because he doesn¿t like to watch television, this has become his main daily pastime.
His ships, aeroplanes and tanks are the result of many hours of work with patience and a love for detail. Most of them come from hardcopy or computer blueprints, though others are reduced, expanded or created from scratch down to the very last piece. Although this Córdoba native says that he is frequently in touch with six model aficionados like himself, he estimates that there are only some twenty paper model makers in Spain. In the countries of Eastern Europe, this hobby is much more common.
