"Cuentos de la Esperanza"

"Cuentos de la esperanza", by Córdoba-born author Jesús Dorado, aims to bring the terrible situation of Latin American children closer to the Spanish public using simple words. Peruvian children fostered by the La Sagrada Familia community in Lima have taken part in this charity book; their drawings illustrate a reality that is very close to them.

Jesús Dorado, a television director who has spent six years travelling around the American continent, was stunned by the images and situations he has seen of how many children are unprotected in Latin America. Cuentos de la Esperanza comes from a need to help them, and to highlight their situation to Spanish children and their parents in a clear way with simple words. The stories speak of the right to childhood, to education, to the environment and to regrouping immigrant families.

In Lima he lived with the 700 children who turn to the "La Sagrada Familia" community, created by Miguel Rodríguez Candía to help and feed them. Of them, about 200 live permanently in the community, which is growing thanks to construction material donations. Jesús Dorado was the storyteller and the children interpreted the stories with their illustrations. Five per cent of book sales will go to the community.
