The Mérida Classical Theatre Festival 'in gold letters' begins

High school students from Extremadura and Portugal play the lead in the presentation of classics from the so-called Golden Age, that is the period between the 16th and 17th centuries. La Sala Trajano in Mérida hosts the event which this year presents a new section titled 'Not all that glitters is gold', a space provided for works from other periods.

Seven works in three days. Two, and even three per day. This is the interpretative challenge which, since five years ago, motivates the Emérita Augusta Secondary School, from the capital of Extremadura. Among the highlights from the lineup for this scholastic festival, on this occasion, The Taming of the Shrew and A Midsummer Night's Dream, by Shakespeare; Life is a Dream by Calderón de la Barca; The Widow from Valencia, by Lope de Vega; or The Tempest, by Marine González Moreno. Some of these works will be interpreted in their original languages.

In the current edition Sonnets of the Portuguese Baroque will be the Portuguese contribution to the event. This initiative from the aforementioned secondary school has gained them numerous recognitions at the national level, such as atThe Buero Juvenile Theatre Awards organised by the Coca-Cola Foundation.
