Almost 30 million tourists to visit Andalusia
Andalusia is expecting a 5% increase in tourists for 2017, reaching a total of almost 30 millions visitors. Last year, 28,200,000 tourists travelled to our region. The tourism sector in Andalusia generates annual earnings of 19.2 billion euros.
The data was presented in the inauguration of the World Tourism Organisation's (UNWTO) central conference, held in Seville. Its general secretary, the Jordanian Taleb Rifai, and the president of the Board of Andalusia attended the event. Susana Díaz announced that we are expecting a 5% increase in tourists visiting the region in 2017, in comparison with the previous year.
It is one of the most important tourism congresses in the world and saw the attendance of one hundred institutions and companies from 18 countries. The meeting was aimed at promoting tourism as an engine of economic and cultural development with policies that respect the conservation of heritage for future generations. The United Nations (UN) has declared 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
Necstour's general meeting was also held within the congress. The company is a European network that aims to offer the EU more beneficial strategies for the sector, as a response to the lack of a common, specific tourism committee.
