Recuerdo Los Rodeos
RTVE CANARIAS
That fateful day of 27 March 1977, an accumulation of circumstances caused the tragedy. The closing of the Gran Canaria Airport for a bomb warning, adverse climate conditions and too many planes on the Los Rodeos runway were forces that conspired together so that two jumbo jets crashed on the runway. 583 people lost their lives and only 70 survived. This sculpture of stairs connecting the Earth and sky was erected ten years ago in memory of the people whose lives ended in the Tenerife airport disaster and who will never be forgotten.
