Fernández Vara says it's necessary to take "immediate" decisions against global warming
The president of Extremadura, Fernández Vara, has stressed the importance of climate change as one of the main issues to tackle in the struggle to achieve sustainable development. This morning he presented a new edition of the book 'Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible' (Objectives for Sustainable Development) in an easy-to-read format. The Extremaduran Cooperation Agency has also announced a new measure "for redefining Extremaduran cooperation".
The new edition of the book focuses on the 17 objectives set by the UN for 2030. These include eliminating poverty, fighting against inequality in education, corruption and infant mortality. Fernández Vara has warned about the dangers of climate change, claiming that "it is predicted that in 20 years' time, 200 million people will have emigrated due to changes in climate". And he concluded that "if we do not take action, we will leave behind a tragic world for future generations".
On the other hand, the director of the Extremaduran Cooperation and Development Agency, Ángel Calle, has announced that today the largest citizen participation process in the history of Extremaduran cooperation has been launched. He was referring to the emails that the Agency sent today to all the social groups in the region calling for a codesign of the cooperation paper as a response to new needs.
