The construction of Gran Canaria's Siam Park gets the go ahead
The archaeological remains found on land where the water park is to be built are not going to prove an obstacle for construction. The government will carry out a study on them.
The mediation of the Government of the Canary Islands on the matter has been key to unfreezing construction on the gigantic water park in the south of Gran Canaria. Ever since the Island Council found archaeological remains in the lot where construction was set to take place, the confrontations with the Town Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana have not stopped. At the local corporation they accused the insular president of boycotting the project. The Island Council asked for calmness and assured that the project was not going to be frozen.
Finally, a meeting between the three institutions about the land has brought calm. The Canarian executive body has committed itself to carrying out a study on the remains in order to determine their importance. But having seen diagrams of the findings, they do not anticipate that the remains will be an obstacle for construction. They have indicated that the remains will be transferred to the Canarian Museum. And in the event that the pre-Hispanic structures must be conserved, they will remain in one of the park¿s gardens, which would provide an even greater attraction.
The definite study will take place in two weeks. At that point, the Town Council will grant the licence to start construction. All agree that it is a strategic project that is going to create an important tourist attraction and generate employment.
