No volcanic risk in Tenerife
The microearthquakes detected in the southwest of Tenerife are normal in active volcanic systems and do not suppose danger for the population
After several hours of meetings and some initial discrepancies, the scientists participating in the Volcanic Phenomena Monitoring and Evaluation Plan (Pevolca) reached a consensus. The seismic movements that occurred in the southwest of Tenerife on 2 October are of volcanic origin. As the very low intensity tremors are not considered to suppose any risk to the population, the Government of the Canary Islands is maintaining a situation of normality on the island. As as additional measure, the National Geographical Institute will install a seismic station in Vilaflor to assess whether there is an increase in activity.
