The Competition Committee of the Spanish Federation has come down heavily on Betis. It has imposed a three-match suspension on Quique Setién after he was removed during the match against Athletic for arguing from the sideline with referee, Martínez Munuera, concerning his decisions. The referee reported that the manager had gone up to him, saying "this is a disgrace". He is banned for two matches, plus a further one for not leaving the benches and ignoring the fourth official. Which means Quique Setién will not be on the benches, either during the derby on 6 January at the Sánchez Pizjuán stadium, or during the subsequent matches against Leganés and Barcelona. Assistant coach Eder Sarabia cannot be there either, since he has been sanctioned with a two-match suspension. Amat, meanwhile, has been sanctioned with a one-match suspension, in light of his tackle on Laporte in the penalty not being deemed to be aggressive. The green-and-white team are back at work tomorrow (Friday) in preparation for the derby.
