Francisco Morillo Suárez, the man imprisoned as the suspected perpetrator of the crime carried out in February 2016 against a young woman who had taken medication to end her own life in María Luisa park in Seville, insisted on Monday, during the first day of his trial in the Provincial Court of Seville, that sexual intercourse with the victim was consensual, and that once concluded, he went home because "he was not scared " and "had not done anything bad".

The defendant stated that that afternoon he consumed cocaine, "four or five beers" and several rum mixers, whilst heading towards María Luisa park, where he arrived around nine at night. There, he met the victim ¿by chance¿, who was found sitting on a bench and seemed quite "cheerful", which was attributed to the fact that she had consumed alcohol. According to his statement, they struck up a conversation and had sexual intercourse for about 15 minutes. The head of the Police Murder Squad described the injuries as "brutal" and says that the victim was "totally helpless".
