The protest called by trade union federation General Confederation of the Portuguese Workers (CGTP) is aimed against the recent economical budget and austerity measures taken by the Portuguese government. Initial plans of CGTP to have hundreds of people walking on the 'Ponte 25 de Abril' (Bridge of the 25th of April) crossing the Tejo river in Lisbon was forbidden by the authorities for security reasons.
