The giant lizards of El Hierro are exposed to a multitude of dangers. Even more so when they return to their natural habitat, in Punta de Miguel in a week's time. That's why before setting off they are being trained so that they know how to tackle all kinds of situations. For example if they see a hungry kestrel on the prowl or a cat stalking them.
These lizards can live up to the age of 13 in the wild. That is a lot of time to face dangers. After having been born and raised in El Hierro, they are now taking the last steps before becoming independent.
