A tribute to Little Spain has recently been added to the street map of New York City. A plaque on 14th Street now honours this historic neighbourhood that was once home to a thriving Hispanic community, and also commemorates La Nacional. Founded in 1868 to support newly arrived Spanish immigrants, this organisation still exists today. In this interview, we speak to La Nacional's executive director, Robert Sanfiz, who tells us all about its history and the remnants of Little Spain that can still be found in Manhattan today.
