There is no need to be alarmed if you happen to see more ambulances, fire engines and military vehicles than usual around San Fernando this Wednesday and Thursday. A drill is being carried out of a powerful earthquake with flooding. The idea is to keep procedures ticking over for coordinating more than 500 workers from across different local authority, regional and state government departments. A major disaster is being simulated, involving a large number of casualties and extensive damage to property.
Pupils from several schools are also standing in as extras in some of this scenarios forming part of this drill, which will be taking place over the course of two days in various parts of San Fernando.
