ENRIQUE SANTIAGO

It was a key time in his career. Fortuny was already a prestigious painter when he decided to close his studio in Rome and move to Granada, to mature as artist. The opportunity to work on what he was really interested in, moving away from commercial factors, and focus on creativity inspired him to make the move. The Alhambra became the study of his work. The discovery of the Moorish palace, the narrow streets and the scenic surroundings that existed in Granada in 1870, captivated the artist. More than 180 works including drawings, sketches and oil paintings by Marino Fortuny during his stay in the south. Two intense and happy years (a young and newly married Mariano Fortuny) during which he produced these beautiful pieces¿ Vibrant and colourful works that we can now enjoy in this collection¿
