"Oriente al Sur", a sample of the first photographs of the Alhambra
The Palace of Charles V in Granada is hosting the exhibition "Oriente al Sur" until 15 October. The collection exhibits the first photographs taken of the Alhambra, using very primitive techniques. The exhibition runs through images of the Nasrid monument, showing how it was seen by visitors in the mid-19th century.

It includes photographs that were taken between 1850 and 1860 using a calotype process technique, with the negatives on wax paper, from which many copies could be made. These photographs have never been on display before and are relatively unknown to the wider public, as they were originally taken by amateurs or professionals who disclosed them to a select audience. The images of these historical places enhance overall knowledge of the monument's history, and the Alhambra, on its part, thus becomes the focus of photographic worship.
