Virgen Macarena Hospital creates new healthcare protocol for children with autism

Diagnosis cases of child autism have soared in recent years. One in every 150 babies comes into the world with this neurological disorder. Catering for such a large collective has become a challenge for the State. These autistic children need specific protocols that safeguard their basic rights, primarily in the areas of education and health. The pediatric department of the Virgen Macarena Hospital in Seville have taken a step in this regard by creating a "Translator" or an alternative augmentative communication system that improves the Doctor-patient relationship. The objective of the new protocol: That no child with autism is left without adequate care in health centres.
