Cyanobacteria has made it to the north of Tenerife and to La Palma

The Ministry of Public Ministry insists that the arrival of microalgae to the Canarian coastline is a natural phenomenon that has nothing to do with waste water discharge.

Microalgae are in the news again after appearing in the northern part Tenerife and in La Palma.

Their presence has sparked worry among residents of towns who rely entirely on tourism.

Today the Government of the Canary Islands has insisted that it is a phenomenon linked to climate change and not the discharge of untreated waste water. Health advisers recommend staying out of the water in those areas.
