The ronqueo (quartering) of tuna from the Almadraba traps in Cádiz

The trapping season comes to a close in Cádiz. Only Tarifa has one or two more trap extractions before reaching the quota total of 1,100 tonnes of bluefin tuna. The sector wants a return to the 1,500 tonnes limit put in place when the recovery plan was established for a species that is suffering from overfishing.

The season is ending and at this company from Barbate that distributes almost half of the bluefin tuna captured in the Almadraba trapping technique in Zahara, Conil and Tarifa, the ronqueos, or the quartering of the fish, makes use of everything. Although the season is coming to an end, don¿t worry, there is still fresh tuna and a deep freeze of at least 60 degrees below freezing guarantees a superior quality product throughout the year.

The Almadraba trapping technique is an art of fishing that goes back 3000 years and is the least damaging method of trapping in terms of overfishing.
