700 kilos of cocaine intercepted in the Port of Algeciras
The container, en route from Chile, was unloaded Wednesday night alongside others from the same company, whose contents were a legal supply of helicopter pieces and replacement parts and whose final destination was not Algeciras but a different Spanish city.
Agents from the Spanish Tax Agency and the Risk Analysis unit of the Civil Guard, who had received pertinent information from international organisations, found the drugs in one of the containers next to the door, grouped in 12 bundles containing 58 one-kilo packages, for a gross weight of 696 kilos and a value of 25 million euros. The cache, of 75 % purity, could treble in value once mixed with other substances.
Authorities believe it was going to be unloaded en route yet, at the moment, there have been no arrests as the investigation remains open.
