Expo `92. Seville commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Universal Exposition.

25 years ago. On 20 April 1992, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía of Spain inaugurated the Universal Exposition of Seville.

That Monday, 20 of April, Prime Minister Felipe González welcomed the King and Queen to La Cartuja. Thus begun the last Universal Exhibition of the 20th Century. The island, with an area of 215 hectares, hosted pavilions from all the Spanish autonomous regions as well as 112 countries. It lasted 176 days and saw 15 million visitors.

Five years before, the city was under construction. Through the state-owned enterprise, Expo 92, 112,000 million pesetas, or 670 million euros, were invested. A quantity that brought a never-before-seen transformation to infrastructure.

Today, 25 years later, 57 of the former pavilions are home to companies, institutions and university colleges.
