First case of measles in the Canary Islands detected in the past three years
A case of measles has been detected in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife. Public Health officials have asked medical staff to look out for patients with high fevers, cough and conjunctivitis. The affected individual is a tourist, a 4-year-old Italian child, who had not been vaccinated.

The minor in this case was isolated and admitted to a general hospital before going back to his country of origin. Measles is not a trivial illness. It can have severe consequences. Health authorities warned doctors about the possible spread of infections. I has been 3 years since the Canary Islands has witnessed a case of this disease.
