The Honey from Villuercas-Ibores, Protected Designation of Origin
The European Commission has included the Honey from Villuercas-Ibores in the Register of Protected Designations of Origin of the European Union. Thus, from now on, it will be able to access the funds that Brussels destines to the promotion of these products through the Rural Development Programs. In the delivery of this seal of quality, the Board of Extremadura has reclaimed a regulation of labeling of honey.

The Destination of Protected Origin (D.O.P.) Villuercas-Ibores includes the honey produced in the 27 municipalities of this region from Extremadura. Four varieties are collected in more than 400,000 hectares, artisanally made and prime quality, sacrificing large production in favour of excellence.
The seal of quality will help, along with its commercialisation, the continued population of these rural areas, and access to European funds for promotion. Upon delivery, the councillor from Extremadura of Agricultural Policies has called for a labelling regulation of the honey, so that the consumers are aware of the origin of the product.
