Extremadura is a fairer region with less debt than a year ago, according to Fernández Vara
The Extremaduran president, Guillermo Fernández Vara, has stated in his annual report that Extremadura has managed to deal with important social challenges and has reduced its deficit by one percentage point, despite the 180 million euro deficit they had to clear with the Inland Revenue. Challenges they are faced with in the future include creating quality employment and improving communications.

Fernández Vara has highlighted measures such as reducing the payment period to suppliers from 138 to 21 days or re-introducing the extra pay for civil servants, concluding that it has been a "very difficult" year but with positive results for Extremadura. He claims they "must" improve the quality of employment created as well as communications for development.
