The Ministry of Environment has approved Almaraz's Temporary Waste Storage facility
The Ministry of Environment has approved the construction project of an Individualised Temporary Storage facility in Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant, which will be used for storing the plant's fuel waste until it is transported to a central storage facility. Ecologists in Action believe that what they really want is to prolong the plant's life beyond 2023.

The storage facility will be used for the plant's radioactive waste which is currently deposited in pool-type reactors. The project entails construction of a concrete building with space for 20 plated containers that will also be used for transporting the material to the central storage facility. The Ministry of Environment has approved the environmental impact statement because it guarantees the protection of natural resources. Ecologists believe that what they really want is to prolong the life of Almaraz beyond 2023.
