Fernando Clavijo has asked the European Commission if the Canary Islands could avoid being affected by an alleged cutback of structural funds to Spain, as it does not meet the deficit target.

The president of the Canary Islands,Fernando Clavijo, has asked the European Commission for the archipelago to remain exempt from a hypothetical suspension of European funds to Spain, due to non-compliance with the deficit and has maintained that it would be doubly unfair for the islands' programmes to be affected.
