Following the history of the Sagrada Familia is following the pulse of Spain. Carlos del Amor looks back over more than 140 years of construction,...
02/06/2026 00:00:49For 144 years—over a century—the Sagrada Familia has watched as Barcelona and Spain have changed. Carlos del Amor traces the history of the basilica: from the laying of the foundation stone in a city undergoing industrialisation to the towers that today complete the silhouette envisioned by Gaudí, through war, dictatorship and democracy.
Through three interactive episodes—Nativity, Passion and Glory— the special programme “Sagrada Familia: 100 Years After Gaudí” reveals the secrets of a building that has been under construction for over 140 years. The Sagrada Família has survived wars and pandemics and has become the tallest Catholic church in the world.
