English Language Broadcast   Panorama: finance and fossil fuels 13/02/2020 29:19

In today's program we focus on the less than transparent relations between global finance and the industries most responsable for global warming. An important report released by researchers at Oil Change International and Friends of the Earth reveals that G20 nations are pouring billions of dollars into the fossil fuel industry through Export Credit Agencies. We discover what these ECAs are and how they allow the most industrialized countries and signatories of the 2015 Paris Agreement to continue investing in oil, gas and coal without oversight. Then we look at an example of how one ECA, the European Investment Bank, operated in the notorious Castor Project, now Castor Case, in Spain. Castor was an off-shore gas storage facility in the Mediterranean that started to produce earthquakes in Castellón and cost citizens billions of euros.
