The Meta4 Quartet is one of Finland's leading chamber music groups.
The quartet, formed in 2001, is made up of Antti Tikkanen and Minna Pensola, violin, Atte Kilpeläinen, viola, and Tomas Djupsjöbacka, cello (www.meta4.fi). They were recently in Madrid for two concerts at the National Auditorium's chamber music hall, in which they performed works by Haydn, Franck, Smetana, Fauré, Reger and Brahms, some of whose Clarinette Quintette in B Minor we hear in the program. It was the fifth time the quartet has performed in the chamber music series at the National Auditorium, a series which this year celebrated its 20th anniversary.
Five years ago at the same venue the Meta4 Quartet gave the world première of another work we listen to, "Bach is the Name," by Spanish composer Jorge Fernández Guerra, winner of Spain's National Music Award for composition in 2007 (06/06/12).
